I’m a lot like you, super busy, constantly racing, trying to keep all of the family, personal and professional balls in the air. Head down, I was so caught up in the constant bailing needed to stay afloat that I was failing to see that life was speeding by and that things “were a changin’” — the hair was thinner and more grey, the kids were quickly getting older, the anniversaries were beginning to pile up, and the yearly physical now included rubber gloves.
Then, it hit me. I’d reached halftime in my life’s game and when I reflected on it, I thought about how fast the first half went, how I was going to keep myself healthy during the second half, whether I’d discover hobbies that would keep me energized and, most importantly, what I could do that would really make a difference in the world.
I decided that the “something” I could do to try and make a difference was to combine my passion for sports with my penchant for planning and organization and write a life planning book to help people live a more balanced, meaningful and satisfying life. Sports have always played a large part in my life and I believed that, if used correctly, the lessons and stories from the world of sports could serve as the perfect foundation upon which to tell my story.
So, over the past five years, I studied the principles of positive psychology and literally read hundred’s of books; essentially devouring everything I could get my hands on to pull out the best information and shape it into a step-by-step quick and easy life planning system that’s delivered using sports as the foundation and that’s based upon the science of positive psychology.
Oh, yeah. For those of you that took Latin, I’d like to share my Curriculum Vitae. I am an attorney, business person, entrepreneur, former athlete, youth coach and (now) an author. Trust me, if you ever want to make your mom proud — write a book! I received both my BA and law degree from the University of Minnesota. By day, for the past 20 years, I’ve worked as an attorney at the law firm of LeVander, Gillen & Miller, P.A. in South St Paul, Minnesota. Like many of you, however, in the evenings you are likely to find me on a field, at the rink or in a dugout.
As for the book, it is my hope that I will make one difference in the life of one person. If I do, then the time spent putting it together will have been well worth it!
